different camera transitions

Similar to the camera shots and angles, we learned in class a few types of camera transitions. we have now been given the opportunity to try some of them. With the help of my family and my friend, I was able to make 5 videos. The types of transitions I used were fade, wipe, match cut, dissolve, and smash cut. The videos are below.

fade

wipe

match cut

dissolve

smash cut

  1. In the camera transition of dissolve, I enjoyed watching the walk through the garden and where it dissolved to Ashley opening the door of the school building. Throughout the video, I experienced a calm and serene mood as I watched from the perspective of the camera man. The dissolve transition suited nicely within the video because it portrays the video as something that is quiet, soft, and enjoyable.

Moreover, the fade transition also caught my attention as I watched Ashley portray a sense of anguish and agony as she dramatically falls to the floor. As the audience, there was no audio, camera angles catches the facial expression of Ashley as she acts out this particular scene. The transition also fits perfectly with this video because it slowly fades out, showing the audience the story of the video ends, this is similar to how a chapter would close as well.

  2. Fade- As the subject falls to the ground and looks up at the sky I feel sorrowful, the screen fades to black; nothingness. Thoughts surface my mind, 'is this the beginning of the end for the subject', 'is she having heart palpitations'. My questions will forever remain unanswered, leaving me feeling empty inside.
Match Cut- The subject is cheery and excited. Breaking the fourth wall he talks to the audience about what's going to do in the video, this intrigues me. Subject halfway through the video puts his hand on the screen to show the change in scenery AKA Match Cut (the transition).
