shooting- dream sequence scene

     Yesterday, I went to treetop park to film the dream sequence of the film. With the assistance of our fellow friends Bryanna, Anais, Malavika and Dylan, we were able to successfully film. Ashley had a professional camera, so we were able to use it. There is no dialogue for this scene, so the audio quality does not matter. In total, we did about 10-15 of the clips needed for our film. This may seem like very little, however this took us a long time to accomplish, about 5 hours to be exact. Below are some pictures we took of the process.

All in all, it was a fun experience where I not only had to act, but also film.

We still need to film the house scenes. The date for this will be later determined.

preparing to film

     I might run across a lot of obstacles when getting ready to shoot. Money will be one of my group's problems because our scenarios are so elaborate. For instance, it could be challenging to recreate the wedding scene due to the numerous expensive items that need to be purchased, such as carpets, flower bouquets, dresses, tables, and chairs. Additionally, because of how the actors are positioned in the sceneries of the field, it could be a little challenging to catch their expression. To achieve the scenes I want for the dream on the field, I think there will need to be a few shots. The majority of the field scenes would similarly be brief. Consequently, the transitions would have to be cut short.

    Next, we have figured out many roles and plans for our film, they are listed below.

Kimberly: Wow that's crazy

Ashley: On a Saturday afternoon too. Have you also seen how.... [gibberish as Kimberly doses off into her dream]

[romance euphoric music begins to play throughout field scene no dialogue until the wedding scene]

Ashley: Kimberly, Kimberly, are you there?

[Kimberly and Ashley are back on the couch]

Ashley: Thinking about him again

Kimberly: Yea.

main character analysis

Kimberly:

A high school girl who is a nerd and boy crazy for the main love interest. She is very delusional, shown by the dream sequence, she even imagines marrying him. In the home opening scene, she is wearing very casual and comfortable clothing, showing that she is very close with Ashley. In the field scene, her wearing a white floral dress, later with a veil and the love interest giving her a ring and flowers shows how delusional she actually is.

If I would compare her to a different character, it would be Helga from Hey Arnold-

Ashley:

Ashley is also a high school girl. She is the best friend of Kimberly. It is assumed that Ashley will be the type of character to give advice to Kimberly and be honest with her. This would be shown if this was the full movie. 

If I would compare her to a different character, it would be Harper from Tall Girl-

Love interest:

Since he is only shown in the dream sequence, this is not who he really is. This personality is what Kimberly came up with in her mind, but based on what Kimberly thinks, he is a clean cut romantic, shown by the picnic, him giving her flowers, etc. The audience does not even know if they are friends.

If I would compare her to a different character, it would be Holden from Liv and Maddie-

Priest Pascal:

Not much is known about Priest Pascal. She is only shown for a few seconds in the dream sequence. If this were a full movie, she would probably be a side character that is friends with Kimberly and Ashley.

If I would compare her to a different character, it would be Chirag Gupta from Diary of a Wimpy Kid-

costuming

When planning to film, it is important to figure out the costuming. This can give the audience insight to your character's personality. For the opening scene, Kimberly and Ashley will be wearing comfortable clothing. Kimberly, however, will look a little more "nerdy" with retainers, glasses, and pigtail braids. This will serve as an example of a two-friend movie night. After that, we would move it to the field, where it would serve as the main activity for each participant in the movie. Kimberly would be dressed in light white for the scene. She will later wear a veil. The cosmetics would look rather natural. To match Kimberly, the love interest will wear a white button-down. During the wedding scene, a priest will show up and as Ashley brings Kimberly back into reality, the priest will wear a burger costume, showing that she is in fact dreaming.

initial storyboard

     Before you film your project, you need a plan. A storyboard is a good way to do it. A storyboard is images that show your film, shot by shot. This allows you to already have a plan before you go to film. We were tasked to make one for our own film. The storyboard is below.

In this page, we establish that the main character, Kimberly, and her best friend, Ashley, are hanging out with each other at one of their houses. They are playing music on a record player, eating food, and having conversation. Mid conversation, Kimberly begins to tune Ashley out and starts to daydream.

Here, the daydream begins and Kimberly's delusions are shown of her and the love intrest. She imagines them doing romantic things such as dancing, holding hands, having a picnic, and giving flowers

All this leads up to the love interest proposing to her and she says yes. The wedding begins and right when are about to kiss, her best friend Ashley calls her, waking her up from her daydreaming.

Kimberly and Ashley are back at the house and the daydream is over. 

film updates

 Today in class, we figured out some things we did not decide on previously:

- the main character's name is Kimberly

- the name of the film is "In my Dreams"

-the side character's name is Ashley

Currently we are working on the storyboard and then we will prepare to film.

During our film, there is a dream sequence. I have made a mood board for this scene below. As you can see, the main characters will be wearing all white and it will be shot in a field. The colors make the scene feel calming, The filter lets the audience know this is happening in their heads. The movements show that these two characters are "in love".
